Scouthead and Austerlands

Considered one of Saddleworth’s premier contests; we offer four prizes in the Open/Championship Section and three prizes in each of the First, Second, Third, Fourth & Youth Section; plus three prizes in Best Local and Best Saddleworth Sections.

Scouthead and Austerlands straddle the A62 Huddersfield Road at around 1,000 feet abo

ve sea level. The two villages command spectacular views over the foothills  of the Pennines, with the outstanding splendour of Yorkshires rolling hills and Saddleworth’s unspoilt moorlands gently merging with the High Peaks of Derbyshire.

It is a well organised family-orientated occasion and a popular venue with members of the brass band community; who welcome the opportunity to meet fellow contestants to participate in, and enjoy, an evening of musical entertainment. Run entirely by unpaid volunteers we have four decades of experience in the planning of Whit Friday band contests.

The contest site at Dawson’s Field is considered a safe environment for bands and local people to meet friends & family. Food & drink is available on the field with a BBQ, Tea Tent/Sweet Shop, Beer Marquee and adequate toilet and first-aid facilities.
