The Lees and Springhead Contest has been running in some form since the first contest which was held on 3rd June 1893. The current contest takes place in the centre of Lees village, with bands marching proudly up the High Street from Elliot Street to Thomas Street, during which deportment is judged.
They then assemble on the bandstand outside Lees Library to play their piece.
You can expect to hear a wide range of bands from top flight Brighouse & Rastrick or Oldham Band (Lees) to scratch bands from universities. The Band Contest Committee do not organise food outlets but all the local shops, pubs and eateries stay open late to cater for visitors on the night.
