At the Scouthead & Austerlands contest you are likely to see around 70 brass bands throughout the evening. World class championship bands such as Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke & The Fairey Band regularly appear, together with a host of bands from the four corners of the Unities Kingdom plus frequent visits by bands from overseas.
Established in 1978 and run entirely by unpaid volunteers, we have four decades of running Whit Friday band contests. Considered to be one of Saddleworth’s premier contests, it is a well organised family-orientated occasion. It is also a popular venue for members of the brass band community, who welcome an opportunity to meet fellow contestants to participate and enjoy an evening of musical entertainment.
The contest site at Dawson’s Field is considered a very safe environment for bands and local people to meet friends and family. Food and drink is available on the field with a BBQ, Coffee Van, Sweet Shop, Beer Marquee and Ice Cream Van plus adequate toilet and first aid facilities.
